Characters can either be AU'ed into the setting or arrive directly from their canons. Shortly after the jamjars arrive, everyone will find an unknown app on their phones that cannot be deleted. By solving the app's missions, characters can learn what is happening in the city and how some of them can go home.
- Veritati is a team-based game with a focus of co-operating on plot-related missions every other month and CR-building during non-plot missions. It will begin as a slice-of-life and most missions will be relatively harmless, but as it progresses, the genre will shift to psychological horror and missions will become more distressing.
- Veritati will operate on a 1:1 ratio. 1 day IC = 1 day OOC.
- The game is slated to run approximately ten months, but character choices may determine a shorter length or continuation past the projected timeline.
- Yes and no. Veritati is currently an invite-only game. For the first month, the game is open to those on the mod's plurk timeline, after which players within the game may extend a single invitation to a newcomer. When the newly invited player submits their application, they must specify who they were invited by. The player who extended the invitation must then comment on the newcomer’s application to confirm that they did invite them.
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS OPEN?
WHAT TYPES OF CHARACTERS ARE APPABLE?
DO CHARACTERS HAVE TO BE HUMANIZED?
ARE POWERS NERFED?
WHAT HAPPENS TO DEAD OR INJURED CHARACTERS?
HOW ARE CANON UPDATES HANDLED?
IS THERE A CHARACTER CAP?
IS THERE A PLAYER CAP?
- Applications are always open and are first-come, first-served with no challenge applications.
- The game accepts canon, canon AU, CRAU, and original characters. Silent and customizable protagonists are also accepted should canon provide a basis for their personality through extra content, dialogue choices, or various other canon materials.
- This is up to the player’s choice. Keep in mind, however, if the character is too large for the game setting, we will ask players to at least shrink the character’s size down to an average human’s height.
- At the beginning, yes. Characters will be stripped of their abilities and will solely have to rely on their own strength. However, players may regain back their characters’ powers by providing bonus activity later down the line.
- Characters who were dead prior to their arrival will be revived, but in regards to any injuries that they might have received while they were either alive or dead, it will be left up to the player’s discretion. Players may choose to have their characters completely healed or still suffering from their wounds. Any fatal injuries will be mostly healed to the point that they are no longer serious, but they will still be extremely painful and may potentially restrict movement.
- Canon updates will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the mod in order to discuss the methods that can be used.
- There is a cap of two characters per player. Players may apply for two characters at once.
- There is currently a cap of 15 players, not including the mod. This number may be subject to change in the future.
HOW ARE CHARACTERS AU'ED?
HOW CLOSE SHOULD THE AU BE TO CANON?
WHAT CAN WE DO WITH AU'ED CHARACTERS?
HOW DO REGAINS WORK?
EXAMPLE OF AN AU AND REGAIN
- Characters are born on Earth and have either grew up in or moved to Vitae - a modern-day American city. Growing up in a mundane setting, they would have led ordinary lives, and magic/supernatural activities are purely fictional. Until they receive the mysterious app, they will act and behave like a NPC.
- Players are encouraged to be creative when creating their AUs, so it is up to their discretion on how closely they'd like to match canon. However, the AU'ed character should still be recognizable in personality and core aspects.
- Players can either choose to keep their characters as a purely AU'ed individual or have their character begin regaining canon memories, appearances, powers, and items. If the latter is chosen, players are allowed to decide how much canon regains their character will receive.
- Players are allowed to regain memories at their own discretion. They do not require mod approval. However, appearances, powers, and items must be regained through bonus activity. This information can be found in the section of activity.
- Raidou Kuzunoha XIV of the Devil Summoner series is from the early 1900s in Japan. In canon, he is a high schooler who works as an assistant to a detective agency, but it's a cover to hide his true occupation as a devil summoner. He has the ability to see, hear, and interact with demons, and he can control the ones in his possession.
In an AU, Raidou is a high school student who is part of a detective's club, which focuses on solving trivial mysteries and finding lost pets. He has the uncanny ability to easily befriend animals and tame them, and he owns a few cats as well. During a memory regain, he recalls that he slipped on a banana peel in a time period and area that he's not familiar with. He then regains one of his canon abilities, which allows him to now see demons running around the city. While he's taking in the new sights, he regains an item - a sheathed sword - that falls from the sky and hits him on the head. While fixing his hair, he realizes that he regained part of his canon appearance, which are two anime side bangs that will always remain pointed and sharp.
WHAT HAPPENS UPON ARRIVAL?
WHAT IF THEY DON'T HAVE A PHONE?
WILL THERE BE LANGUAGE BARRIERS?
WHERE CAN CHARACTERS STAY?
- Canon characters will find themselves waking up in random locations in the city, whether they're in suspicious alleyways, on a busy road, or a locked rooftop. They will have the belongings they've had on them prior to their arrival, but any items that are taller than a foot are missing. In addition, if an item is powered by a specific object, entity, or concept from their canon world, they will not function in the game.
- They will find a Nokia brick phone on them when they wake up. It has the mysterious app, which works and loads normally. However, the phone does not have any reception and characters will not be able to text or call until they get a plan. It also cannot connect to the internet without insane load times, but it does have a free game called Snake.
- No. Upon arrival, characters will discover that they can speak English. They will still be able to communicate in their canon language.
- Unless they're carrying around American dollars or find a kind samaritan, they're stuck on the streets. They will need to find a job and provide for themselves.
WHERE DOES VERITATI TAKE PLACE?
WHAT ARE THE NPCS LIKE?
- The game takes place in Vitae - a modern-day small city in northeastern United States. It's busy and somewhat isolated, hours away from the next pocket of civilization, but it's peaceful. Citizens were able to enter and leave the city whenever they wanted, but upon the arrival of canon characters and the mysterious app, it is completely engulfed by a transparent barrier that is connected by balls of white light. No one can get in or out.
- The NPCs are regular individuals, going about their daily lives, but they are completely oblivious to the strange events occurring in their city. They will deny the existence of a barrier and will be unable to see or interact with the mysterious app. All acts of magic are considered as tricks and weapons are toys.
WHAT ARE THE ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS?
WHAT IS BONUS ACTIVITY?
WHEN MUST BONUS ACTIVITY BE SUBMITTED FOR REGAINS?
IS THERE A LIMIT ON HOW MANY REGAINS CAN BE OBTAINED?
- Activity Check is 20 comments across two threads. Upon their acceptance into the game, players must comment on the permanent AC page for their character. Underneath that top-level, players must submit their activity each month with a new comment. There will be no reminders or warnings for the Activity Check, so players must be diligent at submitting their AC on their own. Players may submit their AC whenever they like, whether it’s at the beginning of the month or at the end, as long as they do it before the last day of the month at 11:59pm EST.
More details about the AC requirements can be found on the permanent AC page.
- For players who achieve more than the basic AC requirements, they may submit their additional threads for in-game rewards. They may use their bonus activity to regain canon appearances/powers/items, gather plot clues, or various non-canon items.
More details about the bonus activity can be found on the Regains page.
- Players must submit their bonus activity threads started from the previous or current month to apply towards a regain. For example, if it is October, players may only use threads which started from September or October for their bonus activity. Threads from August will not count and will be considered lost.
- No, there are no limits on the overall total or monthly amount of regains.
HOW IS DEATH HANDLED?
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CHARACTER IS DROPPED?
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A PLAYER GOES ON HIATUS?
- Deaths that occur within the game will be permanent and is at the discretion of the player. Permadeath will never be sprung as a surprise without the player's acknowledgement and agreement.
- If the character was AU'ed into the setting, they will return to a NPC status and fail to recall anything in-relation to the mysterious app. Jamjar'ed characters will also turn into a NPC, but they will lose their canon memories, abilities, and appearance. They will believe that they lived in Vitae their entire lives and will provide a vague backstory when asked.
- When a player goes on hiatus, their character may either be on auto-pilot or become a NPC.
